Pestana Porto Hotel

The Pestana Porto is one of the best hotels when it comes to accommodation in Porto. It’s actually located on the city walls, giving it a UNESCO World Heritage status. From your room you’ll have a fantastic view of the River Douro and be just a stones throw away from the top tourist attractions.

The rooms are clean and spacious with all the amenities you’d expect in a hotel of this calibre. There’s free and fast wifi, free breakfast, a restaurant, bar and a large meeting room too.

Address: Ribeira Square 1, 4050-513 Oporto, Portugal.

We recommend booking Pestana Porto Hotel with Agoda as they usually have the cheapest prices. You can book Pestana Porto Hotel here.

Aquapura Douro Valley

Aquapura hotel Porto

Aquapura Douro Valley hotel — photo taken from their website.

Arguably one of the most beautiful properties in Porto, Aquapura hotel is located in the stunning Duoro Valley in Porto and is one of our favourite places to stay when we want to relax and explore the nearby vineyards.

Aguapura is in a fantastic location at the top of a cliff with amazing views from every single room. The staff, while helpful, were not the happiest staff members we’ve come across in Porto, which is such a shame.

There are plenty of facilities to keep you entertained during your stay, with an air conditioned gym, spa, swimming pool, hammam and a tennis court. The restaurant serves delicious food so you don’t need to worry about finding somewhere to eat if you’re feeling tired from a day of sightseeing — the food here is wonderful.

All in all, you won’t be disappointed with your stay at Aquapura.

Hotel Infante Sagres

Hotel Infante Sagres Porto

The best thing about Hotel Infante Sagres is its location. It’s located right in the heart of Porto so all of the main attractions are easy to get to.

Our room was clean and comfortable, the staff helpful, and our bathroom spacious. I unfortunately was not very impressed with the restaurant — the breakfast buffet was particularly disappointing, but you’re in such a great location that there are plenty of decent restaurants within walking destinations.

A couple of slight irritations were the fact that wifi wasn’t included in the room rate and that we didn’t have a pool. Not the end of the world for us, but it could be for others.

Infante Sagres is a solid hotel in a great location.

Address: Praça Dona Filipa de Lencastre 62, 4050-259 Oporto, Portugal

InterContinental Porto Palacio das Cardosas

Intercontinental Porto bedroom

Here at Porto City Guide, we’re always a bit reluctant to review and recommend chains for our accommodation sections. We much prefer to stay in one-of-a-kind boutique accommodation so that we can experience something unique.

However, we couldn’t possibly leave out the Intercontinental as it’s set in a renovated 18th century palace! It’s not often you can say you’ve slept in a former palace! This is also an Intercontinental hotel that doesn’t feel like a chain. It feels unique and special — we like it a lot.

We were impressed with the service at the Intercontinental. We were quickly checked in and shown to our room by an extremely attentive staff member. The room was bright and airy and the beds were extremely comfortable. Our bathroom was large and clean — and the bath was enormous!

The restaurant was absolutely fantastic, was fully-booked most nights and it’s not hard to see why. The breakfast buffet was also spectacular — which was very impressive considering how easily hotels manage to mess this up!

We fully recommend Intercontinental Porto for a relaxing city getaway.

Address: Praça Da Liberdade, 25 Porto 4000-322, Portugal.

Tiara Park Atlantic Porto

Tiara Park Atlantic bedroom Porto

Tiara Park Atlantic is our top pick for value for money in Porto. It has some of the most attentive staff, incredible attention to detail (we were handed a glass of Port as we checked in!) and lovely furnishings too.

Unfortunately the downside to this hotel is the location — it’s located in the business district. While it’s perfectly easy to get to the town centre if you happen to be renting a car in Porto, it means you’ll be stuck taking the metro if you don’t. It takes about twenty minutes to get into the centre of town from Tiara Park Atlantic, which is not ideal if you’re strapped for time.

Wifi is free throughout the hotel and some of the fastest we’ve ever experienced in a Porto hotel, which is perfect if you’re here for a business trip!

The restaurant has good quality food, and the breakfast had an astonishing amount of food for us to eat!

If you’re planning a business trip and need to be in the business district then this is the perfect hotel for you. If you want to cram in lots of sightseeing, have a car and want luxury at a slightly cheaper price then this would also be perfect.

If not, then you’re probably better off finding somewhere a little closer to town.

Address: Avenida da Boavista 1466, 4100-114 Oporto, Portugal

Vidago Palace

Vidago Palace bedroom hotel Porto

Another luxurious hotel in Porto and one of our favourites! (Do we say that about every place?)

Vidago Palace gives the impression that you’ve gone way back in time to the 1930′s and is a fun, vintage hotel to stay in!

First and foremost, if you love golf then you have to stay at this hotel! With an enormous golf course, this is one of the best places to get a few games in while in Portugal!

We loved our bedroom. The furnishings were unique and we didn’t feel like we were staying in “just another hotel room”, something which is quite common at the higher-end of the hotel spectrum. Our room was bright and airy and we loved our vintage bathtub too!

There are plenty of facilities to keep you entertained too — there’s a spa, two swimming pools, a hammam and a gym. We especially loved the outdoors pool — it’s kept at 38 degrees Celsius so there’s no chance of getting chilly in there, even if it’s the middle of winter!

Hotel Teatro Porto

Hotel Teatro Porto bedroom

We’ve saved the quirkiest hotel for last with Hotel Teatro, a hotel which is designed to look like a theatre!

The hotel is very unique, you arrive and feel like you’re backstage before a performance. The downside of this, of course, is that the hotel itself is very dark, so it can be hard to find your way around without tripping up!

Teatro is in a great location, right in the heart of town with beautiful buildings and historic architecture everywhere you turn.

The room was spacious and thankfully a lot better lit than the rest of the hotel, with some quirky features with windows and mirrors in the bathroom. The restaurant was great, with a very healthy breakfast to start the day!

If you like to stay in fun and unique accommodation as you travel then you can’t go wrong with Hotel Teatro. Definitely a highlight of anyone’s stay in Porto.

Address: Rua Sá da Bandeira 84, 4000-427 Oporto, Portugal
